There is something about the Hudson Valley that has attracted well-known people for decades. Perhaps it is the natural beauty that musicians and artists have long been inspired by, or maybe it is the privacy it affords with easy access to New York City. Whatever the reason, we have been fortunate to help several cultural icons find their homes here. Join me as we take a tour of some of the Hudson Valley’s most well-known residences, beginning with those that are currently on the market.
“The Whitney House” certainly has had its share of provenance. This iconic circa 1959 mid-century contemporary home at 26 Woods Road in Snedens Landing was designed for a descendant of one of America’s most important art families and was the former childhood home of Angelina Jolie. Today it is for sale by world-renowned conductor, Eugene Kohn.
American burlesque entertainer Gypsy Rose Lee enjoyed her home at 187 City Highway 105 in Highland Mills. The circa 1901 Colonial Revival style home was restored and is set on 6.8 private acres.
“Cliff House” at 40 Lawrence Lane in Snedens Landing was once home to Lorraine Bracco and Ellen Burstyn. The private riverfront home is only 25 minutes from New York City.
This circa 1920’s stone house in Palisades was built into the cliffs, with extraordinary views of the Hudson River. It was built by members of the Tonetti family, pioneers in Snedens Landing who raised the bar for the arts, and was once home to Mike Nichols and Diane Sawyer.
Music aficionados will love 530 North Broadway, which was once home to Warren Haynes, guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band. Situated on 1.7 park-like acres, the home offers seasonal Hudson River views.
